Neurofinance is an emerging field which explores the workings of the brain when somebody makes a financial decision. It has the potential to change the way we make economic decisions on a day to day basis.
“I’ll give you €100 now or €120 in 2 weeks”.
In an intertemporal choice task like the above, most people tend to take the SSR or immediate option over the LLR, the delayed option. I.e. they would rather have €100 now than have to wait two weeks for the extra €20. Could this be related to their ability to visualise themselves in future situations? Is it fair to say that a good self-projector is more likely to make sound financial decisions than somebody that is more present orientated?
