1. Describe three long term energy risks for the European Union. Outline two possible solutions to this energy problem, and give your thoughts on practical ways to achieve these solutions.
2. Review the published literature on income inequality in Europe. What trends are apparent? In your opinion will EU enlargement increase or decrease inequality in the short run? What about the long run? Give reasons grounded in the literature for your opinions.
3. Deeper EU integration may have significant implications for the economic activity of member states. Changing trade relations, increasing competition, and the increased mobility of goods, services and people will all affect the location of industries across the EU. How should member states and the EU react? Can an active industrial policy be justified? What form should regional policy take?
4. Outline two models to explain growth and development effects within the EU. Describe the logic of short run growth effects, medium term growth effects & long term growth effects.
