Following on from the first ISKS conversation between Professor Ruth Levitas and Michael D. Higgins on transformative tools for a better Ireland, the second conversation focuses on the options now facing Irish society before what is likely to be the most draconian budget ever introduced in Dáil Éireann. With public debate focused on the issue of cutbacks in public spending, this conversation will broaden the debate and elaborate a broad agenda of reform that is now urgently needed in the institutions and public culture of Irish society. Introducing the conversation are Dr Michael O’Sullivan, author of Ireland and the Global Question (Cork University Press, 2006) and of the forthcoming What did we do right? (Blackhall Press, 2010) and Dr Mary Murphy of NUI Maynooth, a long-time community activist and author of numerous book chapters and reports on the challenges facing the Irish state and civil society.
